iPhone 12 review: not the usual one you find

iPhone 12 has been under a lot of stress these days, and I’ve compared it to iPhone 11 as well . This video I made is a “different” review from the usual and the usual online videos: I put the user experience at the center and above all I answered your questions!

In this review we show it in detail but to see it more closely we still recommend you scroll a little higher and watch the video review we dedicated to it on our YouTube channel. But now, let’s get started!

Design

So let’s start from the design, which this year differs considerably from the trend of past years, renewing itself and preferring more squared shapes rather than “rounded”. This element I must say, I liked it, but it is obviously a subjective opinion.

What you notice, however, is a good grip, a good feeling in the handle despite the size of the display having been enlarged. In short, the grip is better and now it is also lighter (162 grams): the result is a pleasant smartphone to have in your hands, with a firm and secure grip .

More precisely with iPhone 12 Apple has decided to use the same screen on both iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 Pro, with even 5 color variants: red, blue, white, black and green.

Display

And speaking of displays, remembering that we now have the same screen on both iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 Pro, it must be mentioned that we go from an iPhone 11 LCD display to an AMOLED on iPhone 12 .

This clearly improves the saturation and color management in general, but above all contributes to having a higher color rendering and deep blacks.

Despite this, as you can see, the dimensions of the two smartphones are practically similar. In short, the “frying pan” effect has been avoided because you will feel like you are holding an iPhone 11 in your hands, despite – as mentioned earlier – the grip and weight have also been improved.

Camera

Also on the iPhone 12 we have two cameras, the main and the ultra-wide angle. Without going into too much detail, what interests us is a clearly (and I stress clearly) improved color management:

This is due to the new HDR mode , also usable in the video sector, which collects much more information in the file and allows the software to work better on the image with well-marked contrasts.

But be careful, this does not necessarily mean obtaining images with unbalanced or too saturated colors, but rather with better contrasts between lights and shadows, which often give a more natural effect to the photos, especially indoors.

The new HDR has in fact support for Dolby Vision , which gives us clear improvements especially in videos. However, it should be mentioned that video playback on flashlight iPhone 12 is not done taking into account the information acquired with the new HDR mode: in short, to see “actually” (with the original quality of Dolby Vision HDR) the video you have. resumed, it will be necessary – at least for now – to rely on post production programs, such as Premiere or Final Cut .

In any case, in HDR Dolby Vision we will finally be able to shoot at 30fps , and thanks to the new ultra-wide angle which is now brighter (f / 1.6 against f / 1.8 of the iPhone 11), we will be able to take pictures even at night, with a higher quality. that satisfactory (even if we will be forced to use the “Night Mode”).

Audio and Connectivity?

In the new iPhone 12 the audio has improved a lot in my opinion. I am not referring only to the audio captured in the videos (which you can hear in the video review) but also and above all in the calls: cleaner, more crystalline and without any artifacts.

On connectivity, however, there is nothing to say. The only real novelty is the presence of a 5G antenna , which will allow you in the near future – given that in Italy we are still very backward from this point of view – to enjoy the speeds of this connection.

In short, if you want a 5G smartphone , you don’t necessarily need to buy an iPhone, it’s not a determining factor for your choice.

Autonomy? Differences with iPhone 11

Even in the area of autonomy, I don’t feel like I’m unbalancing much from its predecessor. For sure I can say that iPhone 12 does not last as long as iPhone 11 , but in general the autonomy of the two smartphones is very much in line.

I tested the smartphone in all conditions for at least three days, together with the iPhone 11 to bring you these comparisons, and the two phones have roughly the same hours of use, with the same apps. Perhaps on the iPhone 12 the autonomy is slightly less .

Other questions you asked us

  • Autonomy: is it worth buying it? Absolutely yes, the autonomy of the iPhone 12 is comparable to that of the iPhone 11. Assuming that the iPhone 11 had a good autonomy, then its successor is also advisable, probably better than the iPhone 12 Mini.
  • Is the wide angle better than the iPhone 11? Of course, yes, but there is no gulf of difference. Better color management and better performance in the dark, but all in all if you don’t do it for a profession.

  • Should you switch from iPhone 11 Pro to iPhone 12? In my opinion no. The “Pro” family of Apple smartphones has that little bit extra that makes it reliable and better from some points of view, especially in the photographic sector. The same goes for the 11Pro Max.
  • iPhone 12 or 12 Pro? Better than Pixels? In my opinion the “Pro” is not worth it when compared to the iPhone 12. If you want to take the extra step, go to the Pro Max. The Pixels have a great camera (if they fight it) but iPhone is better in videos.
  • Where to buy iPhone 12? Of course I always recommend Amazon, and obviously the 64GB version is strongly discouraged if this phone is to last you a few years. Here it is on some stores on which we found it.
