Pet Need Transportation Reservations

Domestic pet and animal transport bookings must be made through a Qantas Freight-approved pet travel specialist. Opens an external website.
If you intend to travel with your pet, consult with a pet travel specialist about your options.

Before the travel begins you have to ask for the space for the pets’ travels as check-in.

Only service dogs are permitted in the aircraft’s passenger cabin. All other animals and pets travel in a special area in the hold of a passenger aircraft where the temperature and noise levels are comparable to those in the cabin.

Points to remember before traveling with pets

  • Make certain that you have proper documentation and vaccination certificates for your pets.
  • Make sure you have a sturdy base container that is suitable and comfortable for pets and has adequate ventilation.
  • If you have already purchased your ticket and intend to travel with your pet, you must notify the airline’s booking department. You can contact the helpline number directly or chat online 24 hours before the flight’s departure.
  • Before check-in, make sure your pet is eligible to travel with you in the same flight in-cabin or separately with the cargo.
  • Check to see if your pet is permitted to travel to the destination. Because some countries do not allow people to cross their borders.
  • It is strongly advised that you check-in for your flight through the help desk rather than the self-service channel.
  • Train your pet and familiarise it with the container so that it feels at ease during the journey.
  • The container base should be strong and have a leaked-proof material so that the surroundings of the container is free from specks of dirt and excretion.
  • The container should contain enough space so that pets can move easily inside the container.

Restricted pets

Certain dog breeds cannot be imported into Australia because they are categorized as “dangerous animals” under federal law, including Dogo Argentino, Brazilian Fila, Mastiff, and Japanese Tosa.

Brachycephalic (snub-nosed/flat-faced) breeds must be booked through specific pet travel specialists. Health requirements and flight restrictions apply.
