Retiring at 30 – the most trending dream among youngsters

In ancient India, a man’s life was divided into 4 parts namely

  • Brahmacharya (student life) Till 25
  • Grihastha (household life) 25–48
  • Vanaprastha (retired life) 48–72
  • Sannyasa (renounced life) 72+ (or anytime)

That means there was almost a well-defined structure on what to do at what age. And this structure was quite successful too. Then gradually the world transited from Iron Age to Bronze Age and from the Industrial Age to Digital Age. And the way humans lived also changed. Earlier when people started working at age 20, during later ages, a student hadn’t even completed his education at this age. Currently, people study till age 25 or maybe 27. On average start their career at age 25 and retire at 60. But in this digital age, we are slowly seeing a change in this as the world is going to be handled by Gen Z and Gen A now.

In the last few decades, you must have seen students applying for their academic transcripts like Mumbai University transcript or Pune University transcript and then moving abroad for higher studies where they learnt the advanced form of coding and learnt the most advanced computer technology available. In total, they spent around 24-25 years of their life in acquiring the knowledge they needed to achieve their life goals. Now if someone has the same goal can start learning to code at the age of 10 or even earlier. Surprising? No, right. We know many apps and websites teach kids how they can develop their technology. So starting a career early means retiring early as well. And that can be the future.

Secondly, the students are becoming smarter and getting matured earlier. Children look elder than their seniors these days (pun intended). The brain of children has also evolved very much as compared to the children from the last generation. We can see a 2-year toddler operating Smartphones and if provided proper facilities, there is no doubt they will be operating rockets in future. Well, this is just imaginary but not impossible. They are accompanied by new education policies where they will only learn what they want to learn. That means smart children are combined with only the studies they are interested in. They will do wonders in their chosen field.

Recently we saw the youngest YouTube star earning millions of dollars at age 10. We saw entrepreneurs like Varun Agrawal becoming a billionaire at age 23. So age is just a number. And if they want then they can retire before age 30. They will have plenty of money and their stocks will keep earning for them. The children these days are getting opportunities to earn at a very early age. And motivational speakers emphasizing early retirement would surely influence them to retire early. But this trend is just at the seedling phase now. The majority of the population don’t have a job at 30, another segment of the population has no clue of settlement till 50. So can they retire early? What’s your take? Where is the world heading- early retirement or working till death?

Mumbai is one of the most happening places in India. It is a city that never sleeps.
