The insurance gave good quotes for health insurance and I told them I will call them when I want to get the insurance. But they call me almost EVERYDAY trying to make a sale so I blocked all their #s

Extremely hard to get in contact with. When I tried to cancel my policy, I tried to call and get it canceled. I left a voicemail and no once every gave me a call back. The marketplace makes Blue Cross Blue Shield look terrible. I would never go back to be apart of the Marketplace because you pay so much money but they cover barely anything.

The worst unethical health care company I have ever encountered. Disorganized, dishonest, a total rip off and scam. So disappointed the Affordable Care Act Marketplace in NC, as well as many State Universities use and allow this Monopoly of the health care system in NC.

Poor service; Irrational denials

Pros: Blue Cross is the only health insurance available on the healthcare marketplace.

Cons: Being the only provider, gives the carrier POWER to deny indiscriminately. My daughter had a slip and fall jaw fracture. BCBS delayed the surgery approval to six months requesting this and that information. Then denied since it is over 6 months. The BCBS authorization nurse (name withheld) does not return calls, since it is “not her job” to keep the patient informed. POOR CUSTOMER SERVICE.

Two months ago they raise my premium 10% for a tobacco use surcharge. I have been tobacco-free for over two years now so I asked them where did they come up with the idea that I use tobacco and they said from one of my previous doctors. So that means they would have had to go through my medical records from over 2 years ago to raise my premium on me. Needless to say next year I will not have Blue Cross Blue Shield nor will I ever have them again.

My niece needs surgery on her jaw. She has a severe underbite that keeps her from biting and chewing properly. She has to use her back teeth. Anyway, BlueCross approved the surgery but denied the braces she needed before the surgery. So they paid out of pocket for the braces expecting insurance to cover the surgery…because they approved it… until it was time to get the surgery then they denied it at the last minute. So now they have to wait for the surgeon to appeal. I’ve heard people get bonuses for denying claims and saving the company money. If that’s true, it’s greedy and evil and is costing people their lives/quality of life. But what is for sure true is that my niece needs a surgery she can’t afford and BlueCross can are dragging their feet and making the process even worse than it has to be.

Horrible. Just found out that they have changed their coverage policies and the state of SC doesn’t allow many coverages under the Affordable Care Act. I will have to leave BCBS and find something else for assistance because my life depends on an operation.

They will spend endless hours on the phone with you to not cover basic care. When you look at what you pay per month, versus what you have to pay out of pocket, 99+% of the time you don’t get back near what you put in. If that’s not a scam, I don’t know what is.

Require prior authorization on almost all prescriptions. Even after providers give these you still have to jump through hoops for weeks or months. My believe is that many will just give up and pay using good rx or equivalent which saves bcbs money. This is a shameful process when a company is supposed to be taking care of a client.
