About USBA Insurance

The Uniformed Services Benefit Association (USBA) is a nonprofit organization headquartered in Overland Park, KS, providing affordable group life insurance plans and other financial services specifically designed for active duty and retired military members and their families, as well as honorably discharged veterans, National Guard and Reserve members, and federal civilian employees. USBA was founded in 1959 to meet the needs of active-duty military personnel, who at that time wanted to supplement their SGLI $10,000 benefit and had difficulty finding adequate life insurance coverage that would cover combat-related deaths.

USBA advertises as a veterans insurance company. I did 26 years of service and retired from the Air Force. Unfortunately, during that time of service, we had two wars, and I served in theater in both Afghanistan and Iraq. Of course, like many other veterans, I deal with PTSD. I’ve gotten lots of therapy over the years, both inpatient and outpatient. The VA hospital have a great program that taught me how to deal with symptoms as they arise. After that sacrifice for my country, I wouldn’t expect to be denied life insurance coverage because of it. It is very disappointing when these companies out here claim they are for Veterans, when indeed they aren’t. If you have PTSD don’t even bother with this company, regardless of what the sales agent tells you. Once it gets to the underwriter, it will be denied. Unless of course if you don’t have it annotated anywhere in your medical records.

Management has forgotten that employees are part of the business, the part that keeps all the cogs running. The culture is no longer one that I want to be part of.

The job is steady and the pay is okay for the job. Constantly being on the one’s was not disclosed in initial job description or requirements and they hit you with it after you have started learning. They downplay the roll if it and it is a constant distraction and disruption from regular work. The management also does not have active HR and says/ does things they shouldn’t. They also make it seen like there is

for advancement but there really isn’t. opportunity
