If I could give them 0 starts I would. They deny surgery and meds. The appeals process is a joke! I’d like to know how someone with no medical degree can refuse surgery. They also denied my meds too.

As a retired federal employee, I’ve had BCBS AL for many years. Currently, I have no complaints but I would like to respond to “E. M. of 5 yrs ago”; I’m of the opinion that you don’t know the difference between Medicare and Medicaid: there’s a humongous difference. We were deducted (dearly) every payday for Medicare so we earned every penny that’s going toward our medical expenses. Also, I still have to pay almost $300.00 monthly from my federal annuity payments for my BCBS coverage!!

Generally speaking, dealing with insurance is a bit of a hassle. This is by FAR the worst insurance I’ve ever had. So far, they’ve paid a total of about $6 on claims, and that’s mostly for prescriptions. They deny claims without explanation, and you’ll have to call them to find out why. When you correct it based on what they tell you, they still deny the claim. They have no intentions of ever paying a claim. Even worse, they don’t count anything towards your deductible. If you use BCBS of Alabama, you’re basically uninsured, as you’ll pay everything completely out of pocket. It’s mind boggling how bad this company is.

I’ve had BC throughout my life & have found them a better choice than other(when employer only offered a different company). They have always been the easiest to work with & the quickest to pay claims. Coverage has changed thru the years, as it has with all companies. One thing I didn’t realize for years is that there are different levels of coverage based on what you pay & different employers opt for different plans based on costs. This is why one customer may have something covered for one cost & another has a different cost. It’s difficult to read a policy, but you should so you know in advance what’s covered & what you may be responsible for. There are many things no longer covered, such as routine labs but sometimes these are unnecessarily ordered. I am about to join the Medicare plan & will continue to use BC . Hopefully, they continue to provide the coverage I am used to.
